About the Author

TOM WILSON is a three-time Juno winning Canadian musician with multiple gold records. He has written for and recorded songs with Sarah McLachlan, City and Colour, Jason Isbell, Colin James, Lucinda Williams, Billy Ray Cyrus, Mavis Staples and The Rankin Family. His band Junkhouse has scored eleven top-ten hits, and his iconic, Americana-fuelled Blackie and the Rodeo Kings was widely publicized for its presence on George Bush's iPod. Tom's most recent incarnation, Lee Harvey Osmond, has received extensive praise and airplay throughout the United States, where he's been touring for the last two years as a result. His art has shown in galleries in New York City, Vancouver, Toronto and more recently, Ottawa. The author lives in Hamilton, Ontario.

Tom has always been a wonderful storyteller and gifted songwriter, so I am not surprised that I didn't want to put his book down once I started reading. I love it when words on a page can transport me and make me feel like I'm standing right in thick of things as they're being described, and Tom definitely made this happen for me. Tom grabs you by the hand and pulls you into his world while he uncovers his truth, his story, his pain and his salvation....and sometimes, it's like watching an accident about to happen, you can't turn away.... other times - you're witnessing a miracle. Do yourself a favour. Buy this book and go on the journey.

Beautiful Scars is raw and honest without any pretense. For someone who grapples with secrets and motivations, this is a beautiful unraveling of both and an unwavering look at the revelation. Five stars. I'm not particularly good at finding "dislike" with memoir, especially with hard won truth in memoir, but some will look for it in a review anyway. I just don't have any to give. Even the prose was heartfelt and original. The creative mind is always in flow.

Even from an immensely talented individual used to baring his soul through music and art, it takes a lot of courage to write a memoir this personal. With a true story straight out the truth is stranger than fiction department, Wilson digs in even deeper and explores themes we can all relate to: nature versus nurture, family and its many imperfections, finding your tribe (literally!) and unconditional acceptance, love and forgiveness.

From the heart and soul of a true poet and great writer. You definitely done Hamilton a good turn. Thanks!
