Lilly the mouse idolizes her teacher Mr. Slinger, but when she comes to school flaunting three jingly quarters, movie-star glasses and a purple plastic purse "that played a jaunty tune when it was opened," she interrupts Mr. Slinger's lessons on "Types of Cheese" and words that rhyme with "mice." After one too many disruptions, he confiscates the purse until the day's end. Lilly, humiliated, takes revenge by slipping a mean drawing into Mr. Slinger's book bag?only to open her purse and find a conciliatory note from her hero. A great book with amazing pictures. This was one of my favorites growing up and now my kids love it too. It also provides a good opportunity for talking with your kids about self-control, the responsibility attached to expressing anger, and dealing with disappointment.

I often give this book as a present to little girls because I think it is such a cute story that most little girls can relate too. I just bought it again for my granddaughter who is 3. She is a little too young to appreciate it now. I think it is probably best for girls 5 and up. I know the kids in the primary grades in the school where I was principal, loved the book which I ordered for most of the classes.

Every book written by Kevin Henkes is absolutely wonderful. This was a gift for a great grandmother whose new little one was named Lily. My personal favorite is Chrysanthemum...the perfect book for the first day of school.

I love this book. It was a class favorite when I used to teach kindergarten. do I bought it as a gift for my niece along with a purple plastic purse I found on Amazon. However, I was not pleased with the condition of the book when it arrived. It was supposed to be new, but it looked used to me. Being a teacher, I've had plenty of experience with new books. This one looked like it came of the shelf at a bookstore where many people had browsed at it repeatedly.

This is one of the best books for young girls. My granddaughter is soon to be 6 and loved that the book's heroine had her name and spelled with 2 "l's" like her name.

One of my favorite books as a child!! Finally remembered & bought it for my daughter - instant favorite that we've already read several times. Great lesson about respecting teachers, as well :)

This book is so adorable. My daughter Lily LOVES the fact that the story is about "her."

I chose the book because the little girls name is Lilly and that's my name.
